[DGS Home Page] SEARCHING THE
DELAWARE GENEALOGICAL SOCIETY
WEB PAGES

Except for all DGS Queries which you can search here,

you can now search all web pages and datafiles on the entire delgensoc.org site

(including old pre-September 1998 DGS queries and
pdf files of Delaware Families 1787-1800 project registrations and a few 1787-1800 Delaware tax lists)

by using the format "delgensoc.org: keyword" on Google

where the "keyword" can be any term you want to find anywhere on the delgensoc.org site.

To Search All Web Pages and Datafiles on the delgensoc.org Site
[including all pdf files, but not post-September 1998 DGS queries]

Type in your keyword after "delgensoc.org: " in the form below and click on the "Google Search" button:
[NOTE: there is a space after the colon]

Sample Search

To search for the name Walker, enter "Walker" (without the quote marks) after "delgensoc.org: "
NOTE: your entry characters are not case sensitive.

You will then receive a list of the DGS and other pages where the Walker name appears as well as a short preview of how "Walker" appears on the site.

If there is more than one page of 'hits', those entries after the 1st entry from the http://delgensoc.org web pages may be indented.

If there are more than 2 entries, you may see a "[More results from delgensoc.org]."

You should click on it as Google may omit on its first page "entries very similar to the ... [ones] ... already displayed", but these are the entries you really want to see. Clicking on the "Similar pages" link will not usually be productive.

On the extracted passage that Google displays, click on "Cache" to go to the page where your keyword appears and it will be highlighted unless the file is too large (as it is in the "delgensoc.org/dfnames.html" file), then Google truncates.

To see the full web site you would then need to click on the top line in the statement:
"This is Google's cache of web address (http://delgensoc.org/dfnames.html in example above)."

You will then need use your browser search capability to find the occurance of your keyword on the page (in Netscape, choose "Edit", then "Find in Page", then type in your keyword (e.g. "Walker") and click "Find Next").

You will see that for "Walker", there are 13 DGS web pages where the Walker name appears:
(NOTE: be sure to look on the 2nd Google results page):

  • Delaware Families 1787-1800 project as a registered name
  • Delaware Families 1787-1800 project to appear in volume 1
  • Delaware Tax Transcription project sample
  • Delaware Genealogical Society Journal Index
  • Delaware Surname Index
  • Delaware Towns and Places
  • Corrected Surname Index for "Milford, Delaware, and the Milford Area After 1776"
  • Pre-September 1998 (you should search all queries here instead: DGS Queries)
  • and others

Interestingly, the only DGS page listing many surnames where the surname "Walker" is not found is on the page listing other sites devoted to Delaware Surnames.

By the way, you can use this same procedure to search any web site containing multiple pages.
