Annual Contributions of Books/CDs by DGS to HSD
CD Databases at HSD - Our Magnificent New Resource
by Ralph D. Nelson, Jr.
[September 4, 2000]
Last summer DGS donated to the Historical Society of Delaware (HSD) funds to buy a new computer and a CD (compact disk) reader. Over the past year Norman Thompson used a special DGS fund to buy a set of CD databases to form the nucleus of this new collection. These databases provide a significant extension of the genealogical resources at the HSD because they contain information on millions of names outside of the Delaware area. I have now installed the software required to use the disks, I have written a brief summary of how to put in and take out a CD, and for each database I tell how to open the database, perform a simple search for a name, print the selected information, and close the database. Following is a summary of the new resources that the DGS has made available for public use. Keep it handy for the next time a friend asks you where to find information on an ancestor. And try it yourself. I found new information on almost every CD I installed!
